Understand Diptyque candle sizes, from small and classic formats to larger options, and learn what to compare when choosing a candle or planning a collection.

Quick answer: Diptyque’s published size guide includes 35g miniatures, 70g small candles, 190g classics, the 270g Les Mondes format, 300g medium candles and larger formats. Weight, vessel dimensions and total shipping weight are different measurements.

Choosing a candle size involves more than selecting the largest option within your budget. Consider where the candle will stand, how you plan to use it, whether it is a gift and which fragrance is available in that format.

Independent research based on official public information checked October 10, 2026. This is a buying guide, not a hands-on review. OLFAY is not affiliated with the brands discussed.

Diptyque Candle Size Chart

The names and weights below follow Diptyque’s official customer-service size guide. Inclusion in the guide does not mean every scent is currently offered in every format or country.

Published format Wax weight Selection consideration
Miniature set format 35g Check set contents and whether the item is sold individually.
Small 70g A compact option to consider when display space is limited.
Classic 190g A useful reference size for comparing standard jar candles.
Les Mondes de Diptyque 270g A named collection format; compare its specific vessel and product.
Medium 300g Check the increase in physical dimensions as well as wax weight.
Large 600g Consider the display surface and handling requirements.
Extra-large 1.5kg Confirm the selected fragrance and space requirements.
Giant 5kg Check availability and full specifications before planning a purchase.

70g vs 190g: Start with the Intended Use

Diptyque’s size guidance associates the small format with more intimate rooms and the classic format with small-to-medium spaces. This is qualitative guidance, not a measured coverage guarantee in square metres.

For a personal purchase, think about whether you want a compact object or a more substantial everyday format. For a gift, consider the recipient’s available display space. If you are comparing cost, use the current price of the exact fragrance and format, not a price copied from another collection.

190g vs 300g: Check the Vessel, Too

The larger wax weight does not tell you everything about the object. Check the diameter, height, finish and included accessories. A candle that looks similar in a product photograph may occupy a different amount of table space.

As a format-specific example, the official Figuier classic product page lists 190g, a height of 9cm and a diameter of 7.7cm. These figures describe that listed product; do not apply them automatically to other formats or future versions.

Do Larger Candles Always Offer Better Value?

Not necessarily. A lower price per gram can be useful, but it is only one comparison. Your budget, fragrance preference, presentation needs and realistic use also matter.

For an initial comparison, calculate current purchase price ÷ net wax weight. Keep currency and tax treatment consistent. Label the result as price per gram, not cost per hour or fragrance strength. A heavier candle does not give you enough information to calculate those other measures.

Wax Weight Is Not Shipping Weight

This distinction matters particularly to retailers and private label buyers. Net wax weight excludes the vessel and packaging. A shipping quotation needs information about the finished packed item, carton quantity and transport method.

When comparing manufacturing quotations, request separate fields for net wax weight, finished-product weight, individual box dimensions and master-carton details. This prevents a product-development brief from treating “200g candle” as a complete logistics specification.

A Practical Selection Checklist

  • Confirm the fragrance is available in your chosen format.
  • Measure the intended display surface and check the vessel dimensions.
  • Read the exact model’s care instructions.
  • Compare prices for the same market and date.
  • For gifting, confirm what packaging and accessories are included.
  • For bulk orders, obtain packed weights and carton specifications separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does 190g describe the entire candle with its glass?

Use it as the listed wax quantity, not as a complete packed shipping weight. Obtain a separate gross weight where needed.

Can I predict fragrance coverage from candle weight?

Weight alone is insufficient. Avoid converting grams into a room-area guarantee without product-specific evidence.

Should my own brand use the same sizes?

Choose sizes that fit your customer, packaging and commercial requirements. Competitor formats are reference points rather than requirements.
